NYCEDC is creating a new model of support for fast-growing cleantech and smart cities companies. UrbanTech NYC offers space, equipment, and shared resources to entrepreneurs addressing New York City’s most pressing urban challenges in sectors such as energy, waste, transportation, food, water, and the built environment. UrbanTech NYC could support up to 3,200 jobs over the next 10 years, further establishing New York City as a global leader in sustainable urban innovation.

Urban Future Lab

  • Focus: Early-stage cleantech and smart cities companies

  • Location: 15 Metrotech (Downtown Brooklyn)

  • Size: 10,000 square feet
  • Features: ACRE Incubator and PowerBridge Proof-of-Concept Center

  • Partners: NYU Tandon School of Engineering, NYSERDA                        

  • Timeline: Opened in 2014

Hub @ GCT

  • Focus: Growth-stage software companies

  • Location: 335 Madison Ave (Midtown Manhattan)

  • Size: 50,000 square feet

  • Features: A multi-purpose innovation center                                   

  • Partners: Microsoft, Milstein Properties, Cornell Tech                    

  • Timeline: Opening Summer of 2016

Hub @ New Lab

  • Focus: Growth-stage hardware companies

  • Location: Building 128 (Brooklyn Navy Yard)

  • Size: 84,000 square feet
  • Features: Prototyping and testing lab for rapid product iteration             

  • Partners: ARUP, Autodesk, Carnegie Mellon, and CUNY City Tech

  • Timeline: Opening Summer of 2016
