ABOUT THIS EVENT
Guest Speakers: Rich Mokuolu (Co-founder & CEO at Partsimony), Roland Mokuolu (Co-founder/ COO at Partsimony), Christopher Wilczewski (Product Design Account Manager, FARO)
Join us for our next event as we explore the evolving manufacturing and supply chain logistics ecosystem in New York City and how companies and startups are developing technologies to make manufacturing and design more accessible to small businesses and entrepreneurs. We encourage and facilitate thought-provoking, respectful discourse as we all struggle to understand sweeping changes that are coming to our world!
“Crain’s recently reported two statistics that seem unrelated but taken together say something significant about New York City’s future as an engine of opportunity, innovation, and equity. The first was that manufacturing lost more jobs than initially estimated and now accounts for only 69,000 jobs in the city, or 1.5% of the total. The second was that information jobs grew by 6% to about 200,000. The combination of a shrinking manufacturing sector and a growing information economy has had a profound impact on New York and cities across the U.S.—driving diverging narratives of opportunity and stagnation. Is this bifurcation permanent? Only if we continue to think of tech and manufacturing as separate and unequal sectors rather than as synergistic drivers of a new economy for people of all skillsets.” — Matthew Putman (Manufacturing is Not Dead; Here’s the Blueprint, CRAINS June, 2019)
What are we becoming and where are the opportunities? The city is changing tremendously and quickly right before our eyes. In this event, we’ll explore the intersection of technology and manufacturing and hopefully outline the framework for answering these difficult questions as well as how small businesses, startups and entrepreneurs can not only use emerging technology to become a part of New York’s manufacturing ecosystem, but how they, in partnership with city and private organizations, can redefine the manufacturing landscape to be more diverse and inclusive than ever before.
Our guest speakers are Rich Mokuolu (Co-founder & CEO at Partsimony) and Roland Mokuolu (Co-founder/ COO at Partsimony), twin brothers who, after successfully completing Techstars with funding, launched Partsimony which helps growing hardware companies discover vetted manufacturers, better collaborate with their existing network, build long-term manufacturer relationships, and bring down costs. They will present their machine learning platform and provide an overview and case studies on the unique model of Partsimony and the early success they’ve seen with their startup customers.
Also joining us is Christopher Wilczewski (Northeastern US Product Design Account Manager, FARO). FARO (founded in 1981) is the world’s most trusted source for 3D measurement, imaging and realization technology specializing in 3D manufacturing, construction BIM, public safety forensics, 3D design, and photonics. Chris will be presenting on how product managers and businesses can speed up and improve the design process by bringing the real world “into their computer.” If you want to do anything from making an iPhone case, replace a broken car part or even recreate a sculpture to mass produce, how do you do that? He will explain how we can cut down on the design time by as much as 50%, especially through the Build process.
We will also review the latest research on how manufacturing is changing in New York City (the good, the bad, and the problematic).
Additional speakers TBA. Lite food and beverages will be served.
